You may have heard about the recent cyclone in Burma throughout the Irrawaddy Delta. Our hearts have been breaking upon hearing that upwards of 100,000 people may have been killed and 1.5 million people displaced. We think of all of our friends from Burma, the Burmese refugee children in Missionary Children’s Home, and the years of prayer and intercession the Lord has had us in for Burma as a nation. We feel that something must be done but the news is saying that aid and workers are having a difficult time getting into the country and that there is little chance of people in need getting was is sent.
We recently met with our friend Suan Za, who is from Burma and pastors a local Burmese church. He is leaving in the next couple weeks and is going to be working with contacts there to get relief to those affected by this disaster. Despite the difficulty of getting into the country and distributing aid, he assures us that he has the contacts and the avenues to do so. What he needs now is money.
We feel that we are supposed to help him raise this money.
If you feel as we do and wish there was something you could do; there is. We have an open door to bring life and the Good News to the Burmese people. There is no telling when this opportunity will come again.
Right now there is a great need for food, plastic sheeting, and water purification tablets. These things can be purchased and distributed in Burma. In the next few weeks the rainy “monsoon” season starts so the time is urgent.
We have two weeks to gather the provision for this outreach.
Please pray for Burma’s freedom from poverty, tyranny, and spiritual slavery. Also, please give today. Every prayer and every gift helps.
